WELCOME to Fairview!

Whether you consider yourself "liberal" or "conservative," this social and political discussion forum is for you if you believe, as we do, that establishing a reasonable discourse across ideological lines is both possible and important. Here, we are committed to the kind of open, respectful dialogue that characterizes a healthy democracy and provides a safe space in which to get the "other side of the story." We believe this is important for a couple of reasons.

First of all,… Continue

Fact Check: The Essential Skill

FACT CHECK: It is an unfortunate fact that in today's information saturated society, you can't automatically assume that everything you hear on TV and radio, or read in books, magazines and newspapers, is 100% accurate. Political pundits, radio talk show hosts, activists, politicians, etc. can all be guilty of distorting the facts. This is true for liberals, conservatives and everyone in between. As a result, it is CRUCIAL that you learn to fact check. Here's an excellent place to… Continue

Full Disclosure: The Making of FAIRVIEW

A note to my conservative friends: Don't be put off by the beginning of this essay. Read it through, if you will, to the end.

Full Disclosure: In November of 2004 I watched, in horror, as George W. Bush was elected for a second term. Not only was I horrified; I was stunned. Bush, or at least, his administration, seemed so obviously unconcerned with civil liberties, so blatantly willing to mislead the American populace, so unapologetically willing to reduce the moral debate to… Continue

FAIRVIEW

FAIRVIEW is a nonpartisan, nonprofit initiative that seeks An American Conversation. Using the medium of film, it catalyzes a dialogue between liberal America and conservative America about the issues affecting our country's future. In the spirit of the democracy envisioned by our founding fathers, the project calls the citizens of this country out of passive apathy and into active engagement with the "other side." FAIRVIEW will offer no answers. Instead, the purpose is to challenge those who would live in a world of black and white, good and evil, right and wrong, us and them. The aim is not to complicate matters unnecessarily, but to provoke an exchange of views that may lead us into that gray area from which we may begin to find solutions to our extreme polarity.
